Wendell's Bio

Wendell Epps is a dynamic and energetic 24-year-old television and radio play-by-play broadcaster who has called over 500 college and professional sporting events, including the 2024 WNBA Finals. He has previously held broadcasting roles with the Orlando Magic, Minnesota Lynx, FOX Sports, Osceola Magic, High Point University Athletics, and WXII-12 News. 

 

Based in Miami, Florida, Epps does play-by-play commentary with the National Basketball Association for their "NBA Future Starts Now" broadcasts on the NBA's digital channels.

Epps is also currently working with Unrivaled Basketball as a Content Coordinator, helping create content and write feature stories for the league's social platforms. He is also a Studio Producer for Miami HEAT Radio Broadcasts, producing the HEAT's network pregame and postgame shows on 104.3 WQAM.

In 2024, Epps was named as the radio play-by-play voice of the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx at just 22 years old, becoming the youngest play-by-play broadcaster in the WNBA. He was also the first person of African American and Hispanic descent to be the radio broadcaster for the Lynx in their franchise history. During his time in Minnesota, Epps called every home and away Lynx game on KFAN 100.3 FM. He also hosted a team podcast called Lynx Unleashed, where he interviewed prominent figures in the Lynx community, including Maya Moore, Napheesa Collier, and Seimone Augustus.

Prior to arriving in Minnesota, Epps worked as a Radio Graduate Associate for the Orlando Magic during the 2023-2024 NBA season. Epps was a broadcast coordinator and producer for Magic radio broadcasts and actively covered the team on social media, interviewing Magic players and coaches at practices and shootarounds. He also worked with Orlando's NBA G League affiliate, the Osceola Magic, as an on-air talent for their television broadcasts, where he did play-by-play, color commentary, and sideline reporting.

 

The sports broadcasting journey for Epps began at 18 years old when he was a freshman at High Point University. He became the lead play-by-play voice for High Point Athletics on ESPN+, calling a total of 116 games across 5 different sports (basketball, lacrosse, soccer, track & field, and volleyball) during his four years as a student there. 

 

Epps was recognized by High Point University as the school's Sports Broadcaster of the Year in April of 2022. He was later named the Bob Ryan Sports Reporter of the Year and became the inaugural winner of HPU's Golden Microphone Outstanding Communicator Award in 2023. Most recently in 2024, Epps was recognized by High Point as a Top 10 Under 10 Young Alumni for his achievements post grad. Epps was also the president of High Point's National Sports Media Association student chapter during his junior and senior year at High Point.

A native of Fairfax, VA, Epps earned a B.A. in sports media from High Point University in May of 2023, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He was also eight-time dean's list recipient and member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Lambda Pi Eta honor socities.
